It’s normal to feel nervous when you’re a beginner starting your first Pole Dance class online. At Lush Motion, we offer Pole Basics classes for those new to Pole Dance. You might have lots of questions; What can you expect during your first class? What should you wear? What if you can’t do any tricks? These are all valid concerns but it shouldn’t stop you! Continue reading to find out what you should expect from your first Pole Dance class online.
What to Expect
We always recommend warming up before your first Pole Dance class. If you’re unsure where to start with warming up at home, follow one of our Pole Technique warm-ups. This warm-up wakes up your muscles and gets your heart pumping. While practising at home, our experienced instructors will walk you through the foundations of Pole Dance. They will provide a detailed breakdown of each move through our instructional videos.
What to Wear
You’ll need grip during your class so it’s best to have your legs and arms uncovered. We recommend wearing shorts during your first class. Lush Motion also recommends Abstract Pole Wear for comfortable and fashionable pole wear. Make sure to remove all jewellery before the start of your class, it could restrict your movement or lead to injury. It’s best not to apply any lotion before your first Pole Dance class, it will make it very difficult to have proper grip on the pole.
How to Prepare Mentally
It might be tempting to focus on how the class might be physically challenging. But, it can also be challenging mentally. There will be times where you’ll find yourself feeling frustrated. This stems from not being able to “perfect” a move. It’s important to remember: this happens to everyone. Perseverance is key to learning a new skill. This works in the exact same way for Pole Dance.
Embrace the Experience
It’s important to remember that you won’t get every move in your first Pole Dance class. You might ask yourself how the instructor makes it look so effortless and graceful. But, this takes a lot of practice and time. Remember to go easy on yourself (but don’t forget to point your toes!)
How to Improve
Pole Dance is much more than upper body strength. It's a complete full-body workout. After your first lesson, you might be curious about how you can improve your skills outside of class.
